Project Sidebar

Overview

The Project Sidebar gives you easy access to all the Views in a Project. Views can be organised however you wish, for example: by data type, by employee role, by stage in your workflow, etc.

Contents

The Project Sidebar has a small header section at the top, and the main portion is filled by the list of Views in the Project.

The Name and Description of the current Project are displayed in the header. These settings can be edited in the Project Settings. The Project description can display markdown formatting, so can contain links, text formatted in bold and italics, and more.

The list of Views in the Project is displayed as a "tree" of collapsible folders. Folders can be expanded and collapsed by clicking the icon (either or ). To recursively expand or collapse a folder and all of its children, Alt+Click the folder instead.

Resizing & Hiding the Sidebar

The Sidebar can be resized horizontally. This can be useful for Views with long names, or when some more space is required for the selected View. To resize the Sidebar, hover the mouse over the Sidebar border until the cursor becomes: , then click and drag the mouse to resize the Sidebar.

To reset the Sidebar to its default width, double-click on the Sidebar border.

To save even more screen space, the Sidebar can be collapsed when it is not needed. Click the icon in the Project Header to collapse the Sidebar. The icon will change to (reversing the direction). Click the icon to expand the sidebar again.

A shortcut is available to toggle the sidebar, press Alt+S anywhere in the Project to toggle the sidebar.

Finding Views

The list of Views can be filtered using the Search input. Enter a search term in the search box, and the list of Views is filtered as you type. Clear the search box by deleting the search term, or clicking the button next to the search input.

Editing Views

New Views can be created by clicking the + icon, then following the steps here. Alternatively, a new View can be created as a copy of an existing View by Right Clicking the existing View, then selecting Duplicate View.

Existing views can be edited by Right Clicking the View in the sidebar, then selecting View Settings. This opens the same modal to edit a View's settings as the View Settings button within the View itself.

Views can also be deleted by Right Clicking the View in the sidebar, then selecting Delete View.

Organising Views

To reorganise the "tree" of Views in the sidebar, click the settings cog button in the project sidebar. This opens a modal to edit the structure of the "tree".

Folders are used to group Views and other folders. Views may appear in one or more folders, or no folders at all. Folders cannot be added to multiple "parent" folders. It is often useful to not add Detail Views to a sidebar folder, as the "current record" to be displayed will be unknown if the detail view is selected directly.

The "Project Sidebar Views" folder contains all the views and folders that will be displayed in the Project Sidebar. This may be empty, in which case only the "All Views" folder will be shown. All Views contains all the Views in the current Project, and a read-only version of this list is displayed at the bottom of the modal.

The "All Views" folder can be enabled or disabled by setting the Display "All Views" folder checkbox.

A View or folder can be added to a folder by clicking the icon on the folder, then selecting either Folder or View. In the case of a folder, a prompt will appear where the new folder can be named. In the case of a view, a modal will be displayed where one of the existing Views can be selected.

The button is used to either replace a selected View with another View, or rename a folder.

The button is used to remove a folder or View from the tree.

Views and folders can be reordered and nested by dragging the View or folder to a new position in the tree. (The "All Views" list is read-only, and cannot be reordered.)
